Developmentation of a "trailer/Gameplay trailer" how it went.
Its been a long time coming and a lot of back and forward. originally we sat down as a team and wanted to created and where tasked to create a gameplay trailer. sounds easy at the start and easy to get started with, however a lot of ideas came to mind and the story board process was all over the place. Many ideas where thoughts of and different ways to approach this was thought out. However the goal of making and showing the gameplay was something that was on the back burner.
The main focus was on trying to tell a story and trying to do it in a short period of time before jumping directly into showing the game play. Finding the right words to say and the right images to use and ways to do so was a lot harder to do resulting in making a gameplay trailer a lot more time consuming than expected.
Doing some research about the actual mafia took a turn and there was surprisingly a lot of information and documents as well as photos that was found from the NSW Police and also from CNN. Fox News and also some Italian news programs. Finding the correct and also the most accurate representation was hard however very rewarding.
throughout this process a lot was considered also for the intro to the games trailer and things where slightly changed. News photos of the car park and van entering the car park where taken. To achieve this the car park needing lighting and also a little more oomph to it. Jacob worked on decorating the car park with tyre marks and also signs and creating a nice dark experience. Wanting the opening scene to feel like it was night time and the character was "breaking in". Obtaining the correct lighting took the team awhile as every time we changed the colour and the position a new bake had to be done to ensure that it looked and felt correct. The biggest issue we face currently with the lighting is that the strobes don't actually illuminate an area and that we have had to put directional lights with a low illumination underneath the hanging strobe. We originally wanted the lights to flicker when the van entered the car park however to do so would of required a complete rework for the lights. Unfortunately as a team we do/did not have the time needed to do this, so at the moment the idea of flickering lights is left behind. Hopefully in a future iteration it can be done.
As a team we're almost complete with the gameplay trailer. We're currently facing some issues with our build allowing some of the team access of their microphones. Over the past week this has been fixed and worked upon and will be mentioned and discussed in another blog post. Team member Jonty and also Nathan worked on getting a work around and fix. Currently we still have a few issues with microphone detection. When Seb was testing and playing the game we noticed that the voice recognition was requiring a word input first before the command, in this case Seb was using "UM" or "and". This is currently being looked into and hopefully will be fixed ASAP.
I must say it has been a process, trying to outline and define exactly which pictures and clips to use, as we all have had so many great ideas. Luckily we have been able to gain access to a large assortment of videos and photos.
The aim of the trailer is to demonstrate gameplay and also inform new players and potential supporters about the contents of the game along side its unique mechanic. Being that we currently have some bugs with the voice recognition the team will update and fix this ASAP so we can represent the main mechanic of the game, being the voice command/movement system. Within the trailer there will be small snippets of the player walking and looting and the trailer will show the full extent of how one can and will play the game.
As a team we're currently in the process of getting the best possible clips of us having first hand experience with the game and showing off the best bits of our own gameplay; as well as fine tuning some aspects of the trailer.
A teaser will be published shortly for all too see.
In the mean time keep an eye on this space.
Update: Three images have been added to the post to show case and tease some look of the opening scene.
